Mercer York is Bree Mercer and
Keith York. Both native San Diegans, Bree and Keith are avid
collectors of mid-century design, and live in architect-designed
homes built in the 1950s. Their love of architecture, and
the county’s built environment, extends well back into
the 19th century and forward to today’s great local architects,
building designers, landscape architects, interior designers,
furniture makers, artists, and crafts people.
Bree Mercer comes to Mercer York with over ten
years of successful real estate experience. Selling as a REALTOR
for Coldwell Banker, she knows the San Diego market like the
back of her hand. Upon their purchase of the J.G. Wetherell Residence
(circa 1955), Bree and her family opened up the home to its architect
C.J. “Pat” Paderewski. That event reconnected a 98-year-old
with one of his earliest career milestones, and added fuel to
the renaissance of interest in San Diego’s post-war architects.
Bree is passionate about design, especially when its roots are
local. Talented well beyond her understanding of architecture
and the local real estate market, Bree holds a degree in advertising,
is an avid photographer and boy does she have some skills in
the kitchen!
In addition to his work producing documentaries
on local history and architecture, Keith York, has received accolades
from San Diego city officials and preservationists for his restoration
of Craig Ellwood’s
only design in the county, as well as his thorough documentation
of San Diego’s modernist architecture via modernsandiego.com.
Keith and his family enjoy daily life in Ellwood’s Bobertz
Residence (designed in 1953, built in 1955). Hosting tours, giving
lectures and moderating forums on the topic of San Diego’s
regional architectural heritage, Keith has become nearly synonymous
with the topic. In his free time he is focused on writing about
San Diego’s architectural history. Keith is experienced
and knowledgeable about working with architects and contractors
in restoration and remodeling projects, and is happy to help
long-time owners refresh their living spaces, or help new buyers
find creative ways to make a house their home.
Mercer York works for buyers and sellers in promoting
and preserving great architecture here in San Diego. We would
love the opportunity to connect with you, and to introduce you
to an extensive network of San Diegans who revel in exploring
quality design and life experiences.
